Sweden's Finansinspektionen published its semiannual statistics on fraud via payment services, showing that the total value of fraud declined slightly in the second half of 2024 but remained at high levels, while scams that manipulate consumers into executing transactions increased. Total fraud losses via payment services amounted to SEK 806 million in H2 2024, down from SEK 899 million in H1 2024. Fraud driven by consumer manipulation rose to SEK 554 million from SEK 511 million, while other methods in the dataset fell, including cases where criminals gain access to victims’ internet banking using stolen login details. The statistics are compiled twice a year based on reporting from payment service providers under Finansinspektionen’s supervision and may be revised as reporting errors are corrected.
