At Capital Market Forum 2026, National Bank of Moldova First Deputy Governor Petru Rotaru emphasized the need for a functional capital market that complements bank lending, provides companies with alternative long-term funding and broadens investment options. His remarks came amid implementation of Moldova’s 2025-2030 capital market development strategy and the launch of the Moldova International Stock Exchange, continuing the central bank’s focus on diversifying finance and supporting European integration. Rotaru said the exchange partnership involving the Bucharest Stock Exchange, the Moldovan government through the Public Property Agency, commercial banks and other companies provides a basis for modern market infrastructure. The central bank’s contribution includes strengthening the Single Central Securities Depository, modernizing payment systems through MIA Instant Payments, preparing for accession to the Single Euro Payments Area and gradually liberalizing capital flows. Realizing the market’s potential will also require listing-ready issuers, informed investors, professional intermediaries and predictable regulation grounded in transparency, financial discipline and sound corporate governance.
