Serbia's Ministry of Finance announced that the Republic of Serbia has officially become part of the geographical area of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), with practical implementation in Serbia expected to begin in May 2026. The update positions citizens and firms to make euro payment transactions with SEPA member countries, including all European Union member states, more efficiently and at lower cost. The ministry linked the development to the European Union’s Growth Plan for the Western Balkans and stated that the step formally confirms Serbia’s compliance with relevant European Union payments regulations. It also highlighted anticipated benefits for citizens, businesses and financial institutions, including more efficient, secure and cheaper execution of euro payments with SEPA members under the same conditions that apply within the European Union.
