The U.S. Department of Justice announced the seizure of a cloud computing account used by subsidiaries of Cambodia-based Huione Group. The department said the account hosted backend infrastructure for entities that allegedly helped transfer and conceal proceeds from cryptocurrency investment frauds, cyber scams and other criminal activity on blockchain networks, including by enabling conversion of those proceeds into the legitimate banking sector without detection. According to court documents, the seized account was used to help operate Huione Guarantee, also known as Haowang Guarantee. The Justice Department alleges Huione Guarantee ran Telegram channels offering illicit goods and services and provided escrow services that facilitated transactions for criminals, including money launderers handling cryptocurrency and proceeds from romance and investment scams. Investigators said they have repeatedly traced cyber-enabled fraud proceeds to cryptocurrency addresses attributed to Huione Group, including Huione Guarantee, where the funds were further laundered, including proceeds linked to Southeast Asian scam centers. The department noted that complainants to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center reported more than USD 7.2 billion in losses from cryptocurrency investment fraud alone in 2025. In related action, the Department of the Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network had already issued a final rule in October 2025 identifying Huione Group as a primary money laundering concern and severing it from the U.S. financial system, and has now proposed amending that rule to include H-Pay Service PLC in the group definition.
