The Central Bank of Uruguay has issued a public warning about a new fraudulent video generated using artificial intelligence that misuses the Bank’s image to recommend a purported investment platform. The Bank stated it has already taken relevant measures and reiterated that neither current nor former central bank officials make recommendations about investment mechanisms, particularly those that may request banking or personal data. It also reminded the public that the Central Bank never promotes commercial or financial products, does not advise on or sponsor any financial business, and does not request personal information or send emails for that purpose. The notice further highlighted that some entities offer financial products without being registered or authorised to operate, and encouraged people to verify whether a provider is authorised and to avoid and report suspected fraud through the channels indicated by the Bank.
