The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued a public scam alert referencing bank notices on fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and other scams reported to the HKMA, affecting five banks in Hong Kong. The alert covers The Bank of East Asia, Shanghai Commercial Bank, Chong Hing Bank, Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) and OCBC Bank (Hong Kong). The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Individuals who have disclosed personal information or conducted transactions in response to the scams are advised to contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
