The Bank of the Republic of Haiti has published a progress update on the third cohort of projects financed through its BRH Research and Development Fund, covering seven projects with total funding of HTG 66,029,374. The portfolio includes projects on medical waste management using a One Health approach, converting plastic waste into paving blocks, developing a natural biopesticide for coconut pests and aflatoxin-producing fungi, studying medicinal plants for infectious diseases, integrated waste management through a smart bin, applying artificial intelligence to crop monitoring, and a school-based climate science programme. According to the update, all seven projects started on 23 September 2025 and have each received one disbursement so far. Project durations range from 8 to 30 months, disbursement rates range from 30 percent to 35 percent, and reported execution ranges from 30 percent to 75 percent. The highest execution levels are for the smart-bin waste project at 75 percent and the climate education initiative at 70 percent, followed by the plastic-to-pavers and biopesticide projects at 40 percent. The projects are being carried out by research groups, VALPLAST, the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the State University of Haiti, and Université Quisqueya.
