The European Banking Federation, together with the European Association of Co-operative Banks and the European Savings and Retail Banking Group, published a joint statement welcoming a memorandum of understanding between EuroPA Alliance members Bancomat, Bizum, SIBS-MB WAY and Vipps MobilePay and the EPI Company. The associations position the agreement as a milestone toward interoperable, home-grown European retail payment solutions and seamless cross-border payments across Europe. The statement links the initiative to the EU Retail Payment Strategy and the benefits of the European Union’s Instant Payment Regulation, highlighting that the five solutions serve around 130 million users and are backed by national banking communities across multiple European countries. It also frames the collaboration as building on regional progress and strengthening the ability of SEPA-based schemes to deliver common payment experiences for citizens and businesses in a competitive market, including by offering an alternative to non-European payment solutions. The signatories point to a shared ambition for cross-border payments across Europe by 2027.
