Bank Indonesia’s latest Retail Sales Survey projects annual retail sales growth of 1.4% in September 2026, up from 1.3% in August, with the Real Sales Index expected to reach 221.3. Growth is forecast to come from other goods, other household equipment, and cultural and recreational goods. On a monthly basis, sales are expected to contract by 2.3%, mainly because of lower food, beverage and tobacco sales. In August, the index rose by 1.3% year over year, accelerating from 1.1% in July, supported by food, beverage and tobacco sales and spare parts and accessories. Monthly sales increased by 0.8% after contracting by 0.1% in July, reflecting demand during the Indonesia Independence Day period. Respondents also expect higher inflationary pressure, with the Price Expectations Index rising to 149.9 for November 2026 and 177.9 for February 2027, from 146.5 and 166.0 in the previous survey periods.
