The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) reported hosting a 12-member delegation from Eswatini, led by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Madala Mhlanga, for a study visit focused on insurance market supervision and legal and regulatory matters. The delegation included representatives from Eswatini’s Parliament, Ministry of Finance and its Financial Services Regulatory Authority, and met with TIRA specialists in a session chaired by Christopher Mapunda, TIRA’s Director of Supervision, on behalf of the Insurance Commissioner. Discussions covered the state of Tanzania’s insurance market, the legal framework used to supervise it, the Commissioner’s supervisory powers and the use of information and communications technology systems, alongside TIRA priorities including implementation of the Universal Health Insurance law (UHI) and the establishment of an agricultural insurance consortium (TAIC). The Eswatini delegation noted it is in the process of improving its legal framework and indicated it intends to maintain cooperation with TIRA going forward.
