The Brazil Securities Commission (CVM), together with the Association of Capital Markets Investors (AMEC), announced a free, in-person event at the CVM’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro on 28 May 2025 from 13:30 focused on “Perspectives of Stewardship in Brazil”. The agenda is framed around stewardship as a governance-based relationship between companies and institutional investors that emphasises business sustainability and shareholder responsibility. The programme includes discussion of the evolution of stewardship internationally, including the UK Stewardship Code, and the development of the Brazilian Stewardship Code (CBS). Sessions will also cover the practical benefits of implementing stewardship in connection with fiduciary duty, investor protection and corporate conduct, as well as experiences from local and international asset managers on applying stewardship principles, including engagement case studies, best practices, limitations of the Brazilian model and lessons learned. CVM President João Pedro Nascimento and AMEC President Fábio Coelho are scheduled to participate, alongside a segment on the OECD’s stewardship experience and two panels on the stewardship landscape and investor application.
