Ceres welcomed California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s signing of three bills intended to improve use of the state’s electric grid, accelerate clean energy deployment and increase the value of distributed resources such as rooftop solar and batteries. The enactment follows advocacy by Ceres and companies seeking practical responses to high electricity costs and growing demand for reliable, affordable and clean power. California’s commercial electricity prices are nearly twice the national average. Against that backdrop, businesses had urged policymakers to optimize the grid, accelerate interconnection and expand demand flexibility to reduce peak demand, use existing infrastructure more efficiently and target energy system investment.
