The General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) has designated May 2025 as a month-long awareness drive on medical retirement under its “Topic of the Month” programme, responding to increased public engagement on social media. The campaign explains when retirement for medical unfitness applies and directs insured individuals to the Work Fitness Assessment service via the Ma’ashi platform. GPSSA defines medical retirement as applying where a person is permanently incapable of working due to an occupational injury or a non-work-related condition. It also highlights three cases under Federal Law No. 7 of 1999 in which retirement for health reasons may be available: total disability resulting from a work injury, total disability from a non-work cause, and permanent medical unfitness. The authority encourages individuals to use the Ma’ashi platform to understand procedures and required documents and to avoid resigning before confirming their entitlements.
