Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has revised its regulations for investment analyst (IA) refresher courses used for registration renewal, aiming to align knowledge and training requirements more closely with IA roles and responsibilities. The amendments are effective from 1 July 2025. Renewal criteria for IAs are now separated from those for investment consultants and investment planners, allowing minimum knowledge and training hours to be stipulated in line with IA types and experience. The required curriculum includes at least three hours on rules and regulations, ethics or related laws connected to investment analysis, three hours of fundamental Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) knowledge for an IA’s first renewal, and at least three hours of ESG investment analysis content for IAs other than technical investment analysts. The Stock Exchange of Thailand, with SEC recognition, will define the scope of knowledge and training standards and approve refresher courses to support common standards across the industry, while transitional provisions address IAs already undertaking training under the previous criteria and those seeking re-approval after missing renewal.
