The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan published a reminder on the need to take protective measures against credit fraud, urging the use of available tools and basic security rules when arranging loans. It recommends enabling the “Stop Credit” service via the eGov.kz portal, the eGov mobile app or a credit bureau to help control whether a loan can be issued in a person’s name. The notice also advises keeping SMS codes, PINs, one-time passwords (OTP) and Secure codes confidential even if a caller claims to represent a bank, security service or a public authority, avoiding the installation of remote access software at the request of unknown persons, not following suspicious links from SMS, messaging apps or advertisements, using two-factor authentication for online banking and other important services, and regularly checking credit reports with credit bureaus to detect unauthorised loans.
