South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance is holding the eighth Korea Africa Economic Cooperation ministerial meeting with the African Development Bank and the Export-Import Bank of Korea from Sept. 8 to 11. Marking the partnership’s 20th anniversary, the meeting brings together finance ministers and other representatives from 45 African countries among about 800 participants. Discussions center on using South Korea’s artificial intelligence and digital capabilities to support productivity, industrial development and public service improvements in Africa. Ahead of the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yun-cheol and African Development Bank President Sidi Ould Tah agreed to make AI and digital technology a core area of cooperation. They plan to link the Korea Africa Economic Cooperation Trust Fund, the Economic Development Cooperation Fund and the Knowledge Sharing Program to support African industrial transformation. The program includes a ministerial roundtable followed by a joint declaration, as well as events connecting Korean companies with African investment and procurement opportunities in areas including digital infrastructure, electricity networks, smart cities, water, transport and AI solutions.

South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance is convening representatives from 45 African countries for a ministerial meeting focused on AI and digital infrastructure. South Korea and the African Development Bank agreed to make these areas a core part of their cooperation and link existing development finance and knowledge sharing programs to African projects.
