The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has outlined a series of high-level meetings that the Philippines will host in September and October to develop policy priorities and recommendations for the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in November. The agenda covers economic integration, disaster resilience, tourism investment, peace education, gender equality, regional security and defense. ASEAN economic ministers and key regional partners will meet from Sept. 14 to 22 to advance economic integration and the Philippines’ priority deliverables, with their recommendations informing the November summit. A Sept. 29 tourism ministers’ retreat will work on a regional sustainable and resilient tourism investment outlook and a pipeline of investment-ready projects. Other expected outputs include faster implementation of the 2026-2030 regional disaster management work program, a joint ministerial statement on women’s leadership, recommendations on the women, peace and security agenda, and guidance on strengthening the care economy. Further meetings in October will address energy, transnational crime and defense, culminating in the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings on Oct. 28 and 29.
