The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert following a China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited press release about a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen that have been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing them to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. It advised anyone who has provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent website or login screen to contact the bank using details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
