The U.S. House Financial Services Committee published a commentary by Rep. Monica De La Cruz, vice chairwoman of the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee, outlining legislative efforts aimed at addressing housing challenges, with a focus on disabled veterans’ access to housing and transparency in federal housing spending. De La Cruz noted that the House has passed her Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act, which is intended to help disabled veterans access suitable housing faster and with fewer bureaucratic obstacles, citing that more than 32,000 veterans experienced homelessness on a single night in 2024. She also highlighted her introduction of H.R. 225, the HUD Transparency Act, which would require the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Inspector General to testify before Congress annually to increase accountability for how federal housing dollars are spent and to help root out waste, fraud, and abuse.
