The Central Bank of Peru published data showing that the number of digital payments per adult increased from 90 in 2021 to 625 in the last 12 months to October 2025, equivalent to around 1.7 digital payments per adult per day. The central bank linked the rise mainly to the expansion of digital wallets and payment cards in everyday transactions, supporting adoption in segments where cash previously dominated. It also noted that the trend has been accompanied by modernization of the General Regulation of the National Payment System to align the regulatory framework with an innovation-driven payments ecosystem, including new instruments, channels, and participants; the per-capita metric is calculated as the ratio of a Digital Payments Indicator to the projected population aged 18 to 70 from Peru’s National Institute of Statistics and Informatics.
