Mexico's National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF) issued an alert after detecting a fraud scheme in which scammers impersonate TALA MOBILE, S.A.P.I. de C.V., SOFOM, E.N.R. to lure individuals into contracting a loan through unsolicited “approved credit” messages. The scheme uses SMS and WhatsApp messages and directs victims to download a fraudulent app designed to collect personal data, including an iOS app identified as “Crédito Felices-Tala Préstamos”. CONDUSEF noted that TALA MOBILE is registered in its SIPRES register and urged consumers to distrust credit offers they did not request, avoid downloading suspicious financial apps or sharing personal data, and verify the institution’s registration in SIPRES before engaging.
