The Islamic Development Bank reported that its President, Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, hosted International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and her delegation in Jeddah for bilateral talks aimed at strengthening coordination on member countries’ economic priorities, with a focus on economic resilience, sustainable development and global financial stability. The visit was described as the first by an IMF Managing Director to IsDB headquarters. Discussions covered collaboration on approaches for post-conflict and vulnerable economies, coordination on challenges including economic fragmentation, demographic shifts and digital transformation in emerging markets, and the forthcoming Joint Islamic Finance Report 2025 assessing Islamic finance in global markets, related regulatory challenges, and its potential contribution to financial inclusion and stability. The engagement was positioned as building on the October 2022 memorandum of understanding on joint economic analysis, policy coordination and capacity building, and included a fireside chat on global economic challenges, geopolitical dynamics and the role of multilateral institutions.
