Croatia's Ministry of Finance published a readout of a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tomislav Coric and European Commission Commissioner for Financial Services and the Savings and Investments Union Maria Luís Albuquerque, focused on current European Commission initiatives in financial services. The discussion centred on the commissioner’s portfolio priorities, with emphasis on the Savings and Investments Union and its intended benefits across Member States, including smaller and less developed financial markets, alongside a review of recently adopted and ongoing EU initiatives. Albuquerque highlighted mobilising private capital as a key initiative to address structural challenges such as low productivity growth, insufficient channelling of household savings into productive investment and barriers to the growth and scaling of innovative firms, while Coric welcomed efforts toward an EU-wide single capital market and stressed the need for sufficient time to assess the implications of proposed measures, particularly for smaller markets.
