Bulgaria’s Ministry of Finance announced that Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova will participate in the Eurogroup’s first regular meeting since Bulgaria became a full member of the euro area on 01.01.2026, with a briefing planned on the country’s process of introducing the single European currency. The Eurogroup meeting, scheduled for 19.01.2026 in Brussels, will include reporting on the euro changeover in Bulgaria by Minister Petkova alongside representatives of the European Commission and the European Central Bank, and a discussion of euro area policy priorities based on a draft European Commission recommendation on the economic policy of the monetary union for 2026. Petkova will also attend the ECOFIN meeting on 20.01.2026, where amendments to the recovery and resilience plans of Spain, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands and Ireland are expected to be approved.

Bulgaria's Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova will participate in the Eurogroup meeting on 19 January 2026 in Brussels, marking Bulgaria's first attendance as a full euro area member, with discussions on the euro changeover and euro area policy priorities. Petkova will also attend the ECOFIN meeting on 20 January 2026 to address amendments to recovery and resilience plans for several EU countries.
