The Financial Sector Conduct Authority, with the concurrence of the Prudential Authority and the South African Reserve Bank, has approved an amendment to JSE Clear Proprietary Limited’s licence conditions that permits it to clear cash bonds listed on JSE Limited. The approval expands JSE Clear’s activities beyond JSE listed derivatives and enables central counterparty clearing in South Africa’s listed cash bond market. Central clearing can strengthen counterparty risk management and support market safety, efficiency and resilience. The expansion also advances South Africa’s financial market infrastructure and aligns the domestic fixed income market more closely with global clearing practices.
