The Japan Financial Services Agency has convened a working group under its public private partnership conference on strengthening cybersecurity measures in the financial sector against AI threats. The group is intended to deepen working level discussions between financial institutions, IT operators, government bodies and the Bank of Japan so they can build a shared understanding of cyber risks arising from advances in AI and consider countermeasures. The working group follows discussions at the conference held on April 24. Participants include banks and market infrastructure firms such as Seven Bank, Japan Exchange Group, Mizuho Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and Rakuten Bank, alongside technology providers including Amazon Web Services Japan, Anthropic Japan, OpenAI Japan, Google, IBM Japan, NEC, Microsoft Japan, Nomura Research Institute, Hitachi, BIPROGY and Fujitsu, as well as industry associations, the AI Safety Institute, the National Cyber Office, the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Japan. Details of the working group's discussions will not be disclosed because they contain cybersecurity related information.
