The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) ordered the cessation of unauthorised insurance intermediation carried out through four websites and initiated their blocking for users in Italy. Blocking activity by providers operating in Italy is under way, with full implementation potentially taking several days for technical reasons. The affected sites are www.pontederavaldelsa.it (also accessible via pontederavaldelsa.it), euroassifin.it, primassicurazioni.com and www.cristian-broker.it. The cease-and-desist orders are published in IVASS’s “Defend ourselves from scams” section; the total number of sites subject to such orders has reached 188 since IVASS began exercising blocking powers in November 2023. IVASS also reiterated consumer guidance to apply caution when assessing insurance offers via the internet, phone or instant messaging, particularly for temporary motor third-party liability policies, and to verify before paying premiums that quotes and contracts relate to duly authorised undertakings and intermediaries by consulting IVASS’s registers and lists.
