The Australian Securities & Investments Commission has approved Cboe Australia’s application to operate a listing market, allowing it to list new companies in direct competition with existing market operators including the Australian Securities Exchange. The approval is intended to broaden listing and investment options in Australia, including more initial public offerings and dual-listed foreign entities. Cboe, formerly Chi-X Australia and acquired by Cboe Global Markets in 2021, currently accounts for around 20% of Australian equity market turnover, representing almost $2 billion of trades each day, and will become the fourth market licensed to list securities in Australia alongside ASX, the National Stock Exchange of Australia and the Sydney Stock Exchange.
