The Central Bank of Barbados has rejected claims circulating in a WhatsApp voice note that consumers need BiMPay to receive overseas funds, that domestic transfers are being slowed for non-users or that the public is being forced to adopt the service. BiMPay does not process international transfers or remittances and does not affect access to PayPal or other overseas payment platforms. BiMPay is Barbados’ national infrastructure for real-time domestic payments between participating financial institutions, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Its wallet is an optional access channel, alongside participating institutions’ digital banking applications and payment services. The Central Bank has not directed financial institutions or payment service providers to restrict or delay existing services for customers who do not use BiMPay.
