The National Bank of Serbia published payment system statistics for the third quarter of 2025 showing continued growth in payment card issuance and card payments at domestic merchants, alongside an expanded card acceptance network. More than 7 million users were registered for payment card services at the end of Q3 2025, with 13.2 million payment cards issued, up 10.9% year on year. During the quarter, 211.7 million card purchases were made at domestic merchants, including 192.6 million (91%) using cards issued by domestic payment service providers and 19.1 million (9%) by foreign tourists, bringing total purchases by Serbian citizens and foreign tourists to 20.5% above the same period a year earlier. The number of active POS solutions for cashless payments exceeded 180,000, up 17% year on year, while the number of ATMs stood at 3,197 at end-September, down 0.4% year on year. Card purchases at domestic merchants rose by 20.5% compared to the previous year, with 91% of transactions made using domestically issued cards. The number of active POS solutions grew by 17% year on year, while ATM numbers slightly decreased by 0.4%.
