The Qatar Financial Markets Authority announced it will hold its annual conference on 15 May 2025 in conjunction with Qatar hosting the 50th Annual Meeting of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). The one-day conference will focus on accelerated digital transformation in capital markets, the value proposition of Islamic finance and its link to sustainable investment, ways to connect small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to capital markets, and market conduct and investor protection. The opening will include remarks by the Governor of the Qatar Central Bank and Chairman of QFMA, Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al-Thani, and IOSCO Secretary General Rodrigo Buenaventura, followed by keynote addresses from IOSCO Board Chair Jean-Paul Servais and Masamichi Kono of MUFG Bank. Three working sessions will cover Islamic finance and capital markets growth, empowering SMEs and bridging markets, and market conduct and investor protection, with discussions spanning green sukuk, the SME credit gap and capital deployment, attracting foreign investors, conduct standards, financial literacy, and challenges linked to AI and virtual assets. The IOSCO annual meeting will be hosted by QFMA from 12 to 14 May 2025 ahead of the conference, and QFMA indicated its preparations are complete following a recent IOSCO team visit to Doha, with planned discussions including cybersecurity and market sustainability.
