The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) held an insurance education session for staff from the Mara Regional Commissioner’s Office and members of the Mara Regional Roads Board, as part of a visit by Tanzania’s Insurance Commissioner. The outreach focused on increasing insurance uptake and encouraging better protection of government property through insurance. Mara Regional Commissioner Colonel Evans Alfred Mtambi called on government leaders to ensure buildings, equipment and vehicles are insured to reduce losses from accidents and other incidents, and highlighted agricultural insurance as a tool to support farming investment despite seasonal risks. Regional Administrative Secretary Gerald Kusaya encouraged public servants to take up available insurance products and consider investment opportunities in the insurance sector. Insurance Commissioner Dr Baghayo Saqware urged cooperation to support the government objective of reaching 50% insurance coverage among citizens, noted TIRA’s advisory services for insuring government assets and projects, and restated TIRA’s statutory responsibilities including licensing and registration of insurers, monitoring sector sustainability, protecting policyholders’ rights and providing public insurance education.
