The British Virgin Islands Ministry of Financial Services, Economic Development and Digital Transformation extended by two weeks its consultation on a draft policy for rights of access to the register of beneficial ownership, moving the closing date to 14 March 2025. The consultation was launched on 17 January and had been due to close on 28 February. The draft policy would allow access to beneficial ownership information for eligible categories that can demonstrate a “legitimate interest” under specified circumstances. The Government is seeking input on how “legitimate interest” should be defined and the process that should govern such access, with the stated aim of balancing privacy and sensitive personal data protections with transparency and efforts to tackle illicit finance. Written submissions are due by 14 March 2025.
