Danmarks Nationalbank has signed an agreement with Spain’s Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre – Real Casa de la Moneda to produce Danish coins for the next four years, including updated designs depicting HM King Frederik X. The appointment follows an EU tender after the National Bank of Denmark’s coin production contract with the Mint of Finland, in place since 2017, expired in 2024. Real Casa de la Moneda was selected as the most favourable bid overall, assessed on price, quality and corporate social responsibility, with an initial order covering 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 kroner denominations. The first coins produced under the new arrangement are expected to enter circulation in late 2025.
