The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority has issued a decision amending the personal accident insurance policy for Egyptians abroad and their families, adding cover for unfair dismissal and keeping existing death and disability protections in place. The optional policy will apply from Aug. 1 at an annual premium of EGP 400 and is intended to cover Egyptians residing or working abroad and their families. The main change is compensation of up to EGP 100,000 for unfair dismissal where an employment relationship is terminated and the worker is repatriated for reasons beyond the worker’s control, including collective returns driven by political or economic factors. The policy also continues to provide EGP 250,000 for permanent total disability resulting from an accident, alongside existing cover in cases of natural or accidental death, including the cost of transporting the body back to Egypt. The update follows a cooperation protocol signed in July between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority. Under that protocol, the authority, through the Egyptian Travel Insurance Pool, will set the implementation mechanisms for issuing policies, collecting premiums electronically, speeding compensation payments and carrying out actuarial reviews of pricing based on actual results, while the Foreign Ministry will handle awareness efforts through its channels and outreach to Egyptian communities abroad.
