The Central Bank of Argentina has published Issue 87 of its Economic Essays journal, comprising four studies on inflation targeting, exchange controls, private external overborrowing and fiscal dominance. The issue is available through the journal’s open-access platform. The first paper examines whether inflation-targeting economies experienced different inflation responses during the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The other three, recognized in the central bank’s latest annual economic research awards, analyze the macroeconomic effects of capital controls under deficit financing and a fixed exchange rate, the link between public consumption and private external overborrowing, and how fiscal dominance may explain price and exchange-rate response puzzles in a small open economy.
