In a new article based on discussions at the Geneva Association Health and Demography Conference 2026, the Slovenia Insurance Supervision Agency outlined how longer lives could reshape health care, pensions and insurance. It argued that insurers could move beyond financing the consequences of illness toward preventing and actively managing risks through earlier intervention, while developing products that provide flexible retirement income and protection against people outliving their savings. Artificial intelligence, predictive models, telemedicine and remote monitoring could improve risk assessment, prevention and access to care, but their use requires validated models, responsible handling of health data, transparency and fair treatment. The agency also highlighted the need to assess medical advances by clinical value, quality of life and value for money, and to measure prevention over longer periods than traditional claims metrics. Regulatory oversight should balance innovation with policyholder protection and require evidence that new approaches produce better health outcomes at sustainable cost.
