The South African Reserve Bank published its monthly statement of assets and liabilities as at 31 March 2026, showing a balance sheet total of ZAR 1,383,747,016,278, up ZAR 37,510,487,875 from end-February 2026. Gold and foreign assets increased ZAR 38,590,069,488 to ZAR 1,328,083,245,691, as foreign exchange reserves excluding special drawing rights (SDRs) rose ZAR 48,467,898,454 to ZAR 899,540,937,368 and SDR holdings increased ZAR 7,057,959,053 to ZAR 112,520,611,963, partly offset by a ZAR 16,935,788,019 decline in the rand value of gold to ZAR 316,021,696,360 alongside a lower rand gold price (R 78,317.08 per fine ounce). On the liabilities side, notes and coin in circulation increased ZAR 8,803,543,104 to ZAR 180,647,014,197, deposits by banks rose ZAR 19,966,972,931 to ZAR 360,425,238,373, and the gold and foreign exchange contingency reserve increased ZAR 35,374,260,406 to ZAR 374,756,065,364.

The South African Reserve Bank published its monthly statement of assets and liabilities as at 31 March 2026, reporting a balance sheet total of ZAR 1,383,747,016,278, up ZAR 37,510,487,875 from end-February. Gold and foreign assets rose to ZAR 1,328,083,245,691 on higher foreign exchange reserves and special drawing rights holdings despite a decline in the rand value of gold, while notes and coin in circulation, deposits by banks, and the gold and foreign exchange contingency reserve all increased.
