The International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation has published an initial set of 17 jurisdictional profiles setting out how jurisdictions are adopting or otherwise using the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards issued by the International Sustainability Standards Board. It reports that 36 jurisdictions have adopted or otherwise used the ISSB Standards or are finalising steps to introduce them into their regulatory frameworks, and positions the profiles as a transparency tool for capital markets on progress toward a global baseline of sustainability disclosures. Each profile records the jurisdiction’s stated target for alignment with ISSB Standards and the current status of sustainability-related disclosure requirements, and is published once the jurisdiction’s approach is finalised and no longer subject to consultation, including decisions on which entities are in scope. Of the 17 profiled jurisdictions, 14 target full adoption of ISSB Standards, two target adoption of the climate requirements, and one targets partial incorporation, covering Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, Ghana, Hong Kong SAR, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Tanzania, Türkiye and Zambia. The Foundation also published 16 “snapshots” for jurisdictions where approaches remain subject to finalisation, including 12 proposing or issuing requirements fully aligned with ISSB Standards or designed to deliver functionally aligned outcomes, three incorporating a significant portion of ISSB disclosures, and one considering permitting the use of ISSB Standards; it noted that the European Union’s previously described approach has not been updated pending the outcome of the ESRS simplification “Omnibus” process and any impact on interoperability. Once snapshot jurisdictions finalise their decisions on adoption or other use of ISSB Standards, the Foundation intends to publish profiles for them. It also said it will continue supporting jurisdictions through its Regulatory Implementation Programme and expand supporting tools and resources, citing its recently published Roadmap Development Tool.
