The National Bank of Romania published its June 2026 monetary indicators, showing broad money (M3) at RON 803.9 billion at end-June, down 0.3% from May but up 7.8% from a year earlier. Nongovernment credit reached RON 473.7 billion, rising 1.9% on the month and 8.4% on the year, while resident nongovernment deposits fell 0.4% from May to RON 680.9 billion and were 8.2% higher than a year earlier. Within M3, narrow money (M1) increased 1.5% on the month to RON 488.6 billion, while deposits with an initial maturity of up to two years fell 2.9%. Net foreign assets declined 1.8% on the month to RON 399.0 billion and net domestic assets rose 1.3% to RON 404.9 billion. In lending, RON credit, which accounted for 66.8% of nongovernment credit, rose 1.7% on the month and 3.9% on the year, while foreign currency credit increased 2.1% on the month and 18.9% on the year in RON terms. Government credit fell 1.4% on the month to RON 279.5 billion, although it remained 10.0% above its June 2025 level. On deposits, RON balances fell 0.7% on the month and foreign currency deposits rose 0.4%, with the monthly decline driven by a 2.3% drop in RON deposits from nonfinancial corporations and non-monetary financial institutions, while household RON deposits rose 0.4%. The next release covering July 2026 monetary indicators is scheduled for 25 August 2026.
