The Labuan Financial Services Authority (Labuan FSA) organised the Labuan International Finance Lecture Series under the theme “Synergising ESG, Islamic Finance and Digital Pathways for Labuan IBFC”, focusing on how sustainable finance, Shariah-compliant solutions and technology can be integrated to create new opportunities for Labuan IBFC. The programme included a keynote, “From Compliance to Value Creation: Innovating for Sustainable Growth”, by Dr Ahmad Hezri Adnan on the evolving global ESG landscape and approaches for moving from regulatory alignment to impact-driven value creation. A panel discussion, “Transcending Innovation: Convergent Pathways in ESG, Islamic and Digital Finance”, with Dr Renard Siew and Mr Faroze Nadar, covered areas including regulatory disclosure, embedding ESG into business strategy and governance, and opportunities for Labuan IBFC to advance ESG and sustainable finance solutions. In welcoming remarks, Labuan FSA Director General Affendi Rashdi highlighted Labuan IBFC’s Islamic finance innovation, including the RMB200 million climate sukuk backed by verified carbon-credit linked assets and structured on Shariah principles, as an example of combining sustainability, Islamic finance and digital tokenisation.
