The Central Bank of Peru published export data showing total exports reached USD 9.415 billion in May 2026, up 38.9 percent from a year earlier. The increase was driven mainly by higher export prices and, to a lesser extent, higher shipment volumes. The export price index rose 31.2 percent year on year, led by stronger international prices for Peru’s main export products, especially copper and gold. Higher oil and natural gas prices linked to the conflict in the Middle East also supported the gain, alongside higher fishmeal and lead prices. Export volumes increased 5.9 percent, helped by larger shipments of gold, refined copper and iron. Growth was concentrated in traditional exports, where volumes rose 8.8 percent and prices 39.9 percent in May, while non-traditional export volumes fell 7.3 percent even as prices increased 5.4 percent. For January through May 2026, exports totaled USD 47.345 billion, up 40.1 percent from the same period of 2025. That increase was also mainly price-led, with the export price index up 35.4 percent over the period.
