The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert following a China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited press release about a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen that have been reported to the HKMA, with a link to the bank’s notice made available on the HKMA website. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks that direct customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Anyone who provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through or in response to the fraudulent website or login screen should contact the bank using the details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
