Nepal Rastra Bank announced that the Government of Nepal’s Council of Ministers has appointed Dr Biswo Poudel as Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank under a decision dated 2082 Ashadh 6, and that he has assumed office as the central bank’s 18th Governor. He took the oath of office and secrecy before the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Prakashman Singh Raut. The central bank noted that the oath-taking is required under Section 10(1) of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058, before the Governor commences official duties. It also outlined Dr Poudel’s previous roles, including Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission and senior economic adviser at the Ministry of Finance, as well as academic and professional positions, and his PhD in Agricultural and Natural Resource Economics from the University of California (2011).
