The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario published the results of its reviews of health service providers’ billing and business practices for auto insurance claims, identifying non-compliance with certain regulatory requirements. The reviews do not cover health care standards of practice overseen by health regulatory colleges. Regulatory responses included warning letters and voluntary undertakings, depending on the case. The authority expects providers to meet regulatory requirements and insurers to manage provider relationships effectively, particularly within preferred provider networks. Based on the findings, it extended its 2024-26 Health Service Provider Supervision Plan through March 2027 and will continue to act in cases of consumer harm or non-compliance.
