The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) has added an Electronic Check Clearing System (ECCS) service to the list of e-services on its website, with the stated objective of completing check clearing within one business day. The ECCS launch sits within SAMA’s digital transformation strategy framework, which focuses on delivering automated services to individuals and entities through a secure, unified digital portal. The e-Services Portal is positioned as a digital alternative to traditional transaction channels, offering faster processing, easier access and enhanced data protection, and it already supports services including inquiries about accounts, deposits and safe deposit boxes of deceased persons, complaints against financial institutions, requests to exercise personal data subject rights, applications to join SAMA’s Regulatory Sandbox and requests for non-objection for leadership positions. SAMA indicated that additional electronic services will be introduced in due course.
