The National Bank of Georgia reported that Governor Natia Turnava met Tommaso Mancini-Griffoli, head of the Bank for International Settlements Innovation Hub, at Point Zero Forum 2026 in Zurich to discuss trends and challenges in financial technology, digital finance and payment systems. The talks focused on the BIS Innovation Hub’s work to improve financial sector efficiency and support innovation, with particular attention to the National Bank of Georgia’s existing cooperation with the hub and the scope to deepen that partnership. The bank highlighted its participation in several BIS Innovation Hub initiatives, including Project Aperta and Project Noor. Discussions also covered the National Bank of Georgia’s domestic reforms to support financial innovation, including development of regulatory frameworks for digital banks, virtual asset service providers and stablecoins. In that context, the two sides exchanged views on international practice in digital financial services, tokenisation and central bank digital currencies, as well as options to improve cross border payment efficiency through international cooperation.
