Angola's Ministry of Finance has opened the subscription period for Standard Bank Angola's public offering as part of the state's disposal of a 34% stake in the bank. Standard Bank Group will acquire 24% through its pre-emption right, while the planned stock exchange listing will broaden the bank's shareholder base. The transaction forms part of Angola's Privatization Program, which seeks to reduce direct state ownership and mobilize private investment. The program's six previous public offerings attracted more than 25,000 investors and generated transactions equivalent to AOA 1.6 trillion. Standard Bank Angola Chairman Octávio Castelo Paulo said the listing would subject the bank to greater corporate governance, financial transparency, reporting and market scrutiny requirements.
