South Korea's Financial Services Commission and Financial Supervisory Service have launched a public awareness campaign to help consumers identify and avoid illegal financial schemes. The campaign responds to scams in which illegal fundraising and investment operators use artificial intelligence impersonation, fake news, promises of high returns and principal guarantees to solicit investments before absconding with the funds. The Korean Broadcasting Advertising Corporation's public service advertisement urges consumers to scrutinize financial solicitations, verify claims and consult specialist institutions before investing. Government bodies, local authorities, financial associations and firms plan to distribute it through digital platforms, outdoor displays and branch monitors through the end of 2026. The authorities also plan to strengthen financial education for young people, including military personnel and those entering the workforce.
