The National Bank of Georgia reported that total international reserves reached a record USD 8.14 billion as of August 2026, up 56.4% from a year earlier and USD 613 million from July. Reserve adequacy stood at 128.2% under the International Monetary Fund’s Assessing Reserve Adequacy metric, exceeding the 100% threshold. Reserves have doubled since October 2024. Net foreign exchange purchases totaled USD 2,566.6 million from January through July 2026, while higher gold prices also supported reserve growth. The value of monetary gold rose by USD 135 million in August to USD 1,149.2 million, accounting for 14.1% of total reserves, after the central bank bought an additional USD 100 million of monetary gold in June. The central bank will publish August net purchase statistics on Sept. 25 and updated total reserve data on Oct. 7.
